When it comes to sweets, there are all types of recipes out there. However, I have to say that the best I have ever found was handed down through the family from woman to woman, though I cannot say just where the original origins of this recipe take place. What I can say is that almost everyone who has had this cake, almost loves it, as long as they are chocolate fans.

The cake is often referred to as the ‘Cola Cake’, the ‘Coke Cake’ or in my family, it is referred to as the ‘Moist, Chocolate Cake’. Whatever, you name it, it is definitely to be a pleaser at your next family gathering or simply as a sweet treat after dinner.

A few words of caution:

  • If you put the ingredients together in the wrong order, it will affect how the cake turns out
  • Always use a rectangle pan for this cake as it is too moist to go into bundt pans or even cupcake holders
  • There is a lot of sugar and butter in the cake, so warn those who may have health issues to take it easy on this cake

Coca-Cola Chocolate Cake Recipe

There are a couple parts to this recipe, so it is best to go through part by part to make it, in order to ensure that you get this right. The first part:

Mix all of your dry ingredients together in a large bowl, as you will add to this later. The dry ingredients are:

  • 2 cups of all plain all purpose flour
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups of small white marshmallows

The second part is combining the ingredients that you will bring to a boil on the stove. This includes:

  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder (Hershey’s works well)
  • 1 cup of Coca Cola or similar brand

You will want to bring this to a boil, be sure to stir frequently so that the ingredients mix well.

While the second part of the recipe is cooking, it is time to take a small bowl for the third part of this recipe:

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda

Mix the soda into the buttermilk and let the soda dissolve.

Now that you have all bowls with their respective ingredients, it is time to add the chocolate cola mixture to the flour and mix well. After this has throughly been mixed, add in the buttermilk bowl. Mix this until it is all combined together nicely.

The last step of this is to add:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix all these ingredients into the bowl and be ready to pour into your pan. It is best to grease the pan for the best results. Add this into the pan and cook at 350 degrees for 35 to 45 minutes or until the middle is solid.

While this cake is fresh out of the oven, you need to add the icing, which has its own recipe but is the crowning feature of this cake. The icing needs to be boiled on the stove, so do this around ten minutes before the cake is ready to come out of the oven.

The icing recipe is:

  • 16 ounces of powdered sugar
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder
  • 6 tablespoons of coca-cola
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla

The end result is going to be a chocolate cake that has the consistency of a nice fudge brownie. Most people are going to brag about this being one of the best chocolate cakes that they have ever had. Though it does involve a few steps, once you know what you are doing this cake is fairly simple with great results.
